On January 14th, the 2012 BET Honors was taped at the historic Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. The BET Honors recognizes the achievements of African-Americans in several fields including education, media, the arts, service and entertainment. Actress Gabrielle Union hosted the show for the fourth year in a row. “Vampire Diaries” actress Kat Graham served as BET’s special correspondent for the red carpet. One of the many highlights of the night was the appearance of First Lady Michelle Obama who presented an award for literary achievement to poet Maya Angelou.

 

MSDTV captured a bevy of celebrities and media personalities including host Gabrielle Union, Jesse Jackson, Kat Graham, Solange, Beverly Bond, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Ledisi, Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott, General Colin Powell, “Red Tails” star Terrence Howard, BET’s Rocsi and TJ Holmes, BET EVP Stephen Hill and so many more on the red carpet.

 

The 2012 BET Honors  airs during Black History Month on Monday, February 13 at 9:00 PM.

Today’s release of the film “Red Tails” may make history on several accounts. “Red Tails” is one of the first all Black action films made for wide release. If the film is well received by audiences and makes enough money, this may make it easier for Hollywood producers to green light big budget films with non-White casts.
