Former rapper Ja Rule was release from an upstate New York prison on Thursday morning after serving most of his two-year sentence for illegal gun possession.

Unfortunately for Rule, the 36-year-old musician will be headed straight into another facility to serve time for his tax case…

Rapper DMX visited The Breakfast Club on New York’s Power 105.1 earlier today. The rapper who’s been embroiled in a paternity lawsuit spoke about his relationship with Jay-Z, and Ja Rule; keeping things 100 in the industry; young rappers including Drake; prison, and women. (more…)

Ja Rule is serving some time in upstate New York & he decided to go use some of his time to write monthly “diaries” of his experience in jail. in his first letter, he speaks about an 18-year-old inmate attempting suicide.

Today I can truly say I’ve been through it all.

A young kid comes in today they put him in the 18 cell right next to mine he looked kinda depressed coming in but nothing out of the ordinary a few hours go past and all of a sudden I hear someone choking he’s trying to kill his self. We all heard it everyone runs to their cell doors and start kicking, banging, calling the CO’s.

Now I’ve seen a person get shot and I’ve even seen someone die from a drug overdose but this was different this was suicide. It was like I can hear the life leaving his body the CO’s rush in the cell they saved him. I didn’t even think some shit like this was possible in these cells. He tied his bed sheet to a pole that’s attached to a sink which is about 3 feet off the ground made some sort of noose
wrapped it around his neck then threw himself forward into a boston crab carmel clutch type position.

I never understood why a person would wanna kill themselves life is love & love is living it’s gods most precious gift. After they brought him back to his cell in the suicide suit he cried for hours we tried to console him telling him it’s never that bad to wanna kill yourself.

Turns out he just turned 18 and got his girl friend who is only 16 and her parents pressed charges and now he’s locked up on sex offender charges. He was in school for graphic arts to learn how to make video games. It’s sad cause he’s still a kid himself a good kid at that and now he’ll be forever labeled rapist or sex offender when really he’s probably just a kid in love.

Wow it’s crazy how 2 years can be so close but yet so far when your 18 & 16 it seems far because he’s now an adult and she’s still a teen, but when your 10 & 12 it’s cute and innocent and when your 18 & 20 nobody gives a fuck. It makes me think about Britt and her starting to date I’m not gonna lie at 18 & 16 I’d be at a cross road to but to ruin a young mans life & stain his future is not rite.

At 18 your legally an adult but your really still just a kid I remember when I was 18 I thought I knew everything about life & living as I look back now as a 35 year old man I realize I didn’t know shit LOL and I’m still learning & growing as a man. 2 years that’s what separates me from my family rite now and I look at it as short time but yet when Ish told me that Britt’s acting partner was 17 I almost had a fit even tho she’ll be 16 soon I’m sure he’ll be 18 soon and BAM there it is crossroad LOL.

It’s funny how God puts situations in front of you so you can see it clearly. I trust Britt I know me & Ish raised her well besides she hates Kids LOL. But I also know the intentions of a young man I got my eyes on you lil homie Don’t make me come back to this motherfucker!

Ja Rule, who’s real name is Jeffrey Atkins, was sentenced to more than 2 years in prison just yesterday, July 18th for neglecting to file income tax returns. It has been reported that the Rapper/Actor failed to pay over $3 Million worth in taxes amid 2004-2006, of which he previously pleaded guilty. In addition to the 34-year-old’s ruling, he has been commanded to pay up $1.1 Million in dues. Ja has been quoted stating, “I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal. I was a young man who made a lot of money. I didn’t know how to deal with these finances, and I didn’t have people to guide me, so I made mistakes.” Just last month, Ja was sentenced to 2 years in prison for carrying a semi-automatic weapon back in 2007, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that the two prison terms will be served in tandem.

Last night Ja Rule was in the studio putting the finishing touches on his new album, ‘Pain Is Love 2’ with producer 7 Aurelius for the last time before serving his 18 month prison sentence. In this footage Rule also gives a big shout out to his fans for all their continuous support.

It’s good to see him in good spirit despite going up north for two years. Keep your head up & can’t wait to see the one hour documentary show on BET.

Ja Rule is scheduled to turn himself in today after he pleaded guilty in December 2010 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

Ja Rule, whose real name Jeffrey Atkins, has been in the studio working on tracks and shooting videos in preparation of his lock down. He is expected to serve his sentence in upstate New York prison for 2 years.

Rule recently told “Good Day New York” about his upcoming sentence:

“Laws are laws. There’s nothing I could really do but own up to the situation. You know, I try not to regret anything I do in life, because you go through life and you do things, and you man up to them. You own them.”

As you may recall, back in 2007 – the same night Lil Wayne was arrested for gun possession after their concert they performed together – Ja Rule was also stopped in his Maybach and cops found a .40 caliber semi-automatic gun in his vehicle.

In addition to those charges, his lawyers are working to have the additional tax evasion charges on his $3 million income–which will give him 3 additional years in prison– combined with his current sentence so it can be served out simultaneously.

Although sentenced for 2 years, Rule is hoping to get out in 6 months on good behavior. He recently tweeted his last few words today:

Rule leaves behind his wife and 3 kids in New Jersey and says he wants to get his GED, learn to play the guitar, and write a book.

Stay Tuned…

During his interview with radio personality Jenny Boom Boom, at the 6:27 mark, Ja Rule informs her about his 1 hour documentary show on B.E.T. (a la Lil Kim “The Countdown To Lockdown”). He also talks about his new album Pain Is Love 2, which is dropping on June 7th, his beef with with 50, going to jail the day after his album & more.
