It just keeps getting better at the Essence Music Festival. Last night was dare we say, and fun combination of “the club,” and church. Host, Nephew Tommy hit all the right notes with the audience as he engaged them with comedy, dance contests, and some of the best improv we’ve seen in a while.

Tank, Mary Mary, Ledisi, comedian Kevin Hart, and Mary J. Blige took the mainstage while Teedra Moses, Dru Hill, the all female Original Pinettes Brass Band, the Robert Glasper Experiment, and others performed in the sponsored superlounges.

It was quite the night for media as many stars trickled into the press room to pose, and chat. Nephew Tommy and Kevin Hart weren’t the only funny men in the building; Robert Glasper, Marvin Sapp, and Raheem DeVaughn provided comedy relief in the press room.

Guests at the mainstage enjoyed performances from The Pointer Sisters, Keyshia Cole, Trey Songz, D’Angelo, and Charlie Wilson. The more laid back superlounge featured Stephanie Mills, Super Jay, newcomer Greta Prince, Marsha Ambrosius, SWV, and more.
