Scarface fans may have another reason to head to the theaters again. Universal Pictures is developing a third update of the “Scarface” movie to be produced by ousted former studio head Marc Shmuger and Martin Bregman, the veteran producer who made the second (Al Pacino) remake in 1983.

Although the project is still in its early stages, the studio is clearing up rumors that is will be a sequel or remake of the 1983 Al Pacino version, or the 1932 Paul Muni-George Raft  movie.

Both of those films followed crime sagas that tell the rise and fall of a gangster, and each mirror their time era. The 1932 version was set in Chicago and featured bootlegging, with Italians and Irish mobsters and the 1983 version was set in Miami with Cubans owning the cocaine trade.

The new “Scarface” is planning on taking the same theme: a crime tale set in today’s world, offering a dark look at the American Dream.
