The Soul Train Awards celebrated 25 years in Las Vegas and MSDTV has the full rundown on the hits and misses of the star studded night.

Check out our exclusive recap and photos after the break….

The 2012 Soul Train Awards taped last Thursday at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The 4 hours production seemed to be an on-going moment in music, flashbacks, honorees, dramatic speeches and a yes a few missteps.

The award ceremony started off with a bang with host Cedric The Entertainer and the Soul Train Dancers hitting the stage dancing, while music director Raphael Saadiqq lead the live band.

A few surprises were highlighted during the night. Founder Don Cornelius’ tribute was a definite show stopper as well as New Edition’s performance and extremely lenghy speech.

Gladys Knight didn’t make the night’s festivities or for that matter any of the weekend’s events – but Stevie Wonder apparently took her place as he ended up closing the show. Interestingly, 2 Chainz also made headlines with his performance – (and somewhat out of place Birthday song rendition) but nevertheless – the crowd was entertained.

Fantasia graced the stage where she paid homage to Aretha Franklin by singing one her smash hits and R&B crooner Charlie Wilson came to the stage and sang one of his greatest hits, Outstanding – which was a rush of pure adrenaline to the attendees.

Best R& B Male went to newcomer Miguel, who put an interesting emphasis on thanking his girlfriend.

Song of the Year went to singer Tyrese for Stay – who also repped with his new TGT squad.

There is obviously too much to recap, so make sure you check out the full show – on CENTRIC or BET, Sunday, November 25th at 9pm.
