HOT 97 Summer Jam began and ended on a note of surprise for the 50 thousand plus fans who came out to the Met Life Stadium.

Fred The Godson opened the festival village with his single “Monique’s Room” and was followed by BIG K.R.I.T. who showcased popular tracks from his mixtapes “4 Eva and a Day” and “Return of 4 Eva”.

Harlem rapper Azealia Banks made her first HOT 97 Summer Jam appearance and didn’t disappoint the crowd of screaming fans as she rocked the stage with her hit single “212” followed by “F*** Up The Fun” and “Jumanji”.

Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q rounded out the festival and brought out ASAP Rocky to perform “Hands on the Wheel”, where the young Harlem rapper brought his family and his entire entourage with him on the festival village stage.

After the festival, things got a little sketchy – as the night offered quite a few no-shows and the next day Funkmaster Flex and Nicki offer an explanation:

With the drama still very much unresolved, the main show still offered an exciting line-up featuring  Maino J. Cole, Rick Ross, French Montana, Meek Mill, Wale, Tyga, Trey Songz, Wacka Flocka, Young Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Big Sean and more.

The biggest surprises of the night were MOP and Method Man, and the Don Nas, who hit the stage and brought out Lauryn Hill, offering the crowd with a classic performance of “If I Ruled The World” and “Ready or Not”.

It’s hip-hop baby!
