The major label musical chairs have once again commenced with the rumored hiring of Warner Bros. Records executive Joie “Joey I.E.” Manda to fill the open position of president of Def Jam Recordings.
The news was first reported on Tuesday afternoon (March 13) by Hits Daily Double who publicized the rumor from a source close to the label.
Although there seems to be much speculation if the rumor holds any truth, a source close to Manda confirms that the executive will soon be joining the Island Def Jam team where he’ll most likely report to IDJ chief Steve Bartels.
According to XXL.com:
Manda would join a short list of men to hold the lofty title of Def Jam prez, including Bill Stephany, Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles and, most recently, Jay-Z. The Brooklyn rapper stepped down from the position in December 2007 and the role has remained vacant since.
Manda currently works with Todd Moscowitz, the Warner Bros. co-president and a former Def Jam exec. under president Lyor Cohen. Together, they have worked to strengthen the Warner Bros roster by adding Common, Curren$y and Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group signees Wale, Meek Mill and Stalley – in addition Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame and upstarts Kirko Bangz, XV and the New Boyz.
Prior to his position at WB, Manda has stayed relevant within the music world working for Asylum Records and popular New York DJ Funkmaster Flex.
Manda has yet to respond to this rumor. Of course, MSDTV will keep you updated.
