Earlier this week MSDTV reported that New York top rated anchor Sue Simmons was fired from her coveted evening news spot on NBC, Channel 4.
Now it appears as if the network has caught wind of the severe backlash on their decision — and is now offering an official explanation on why the 68 -year-old veteran was let go.
According to the network, Simmons racked in a salary of $5 million a year which was essentially too pricey for the station to maintain.
“It is a lot of money, and many people have been under the impression that Sue had been phoning it in for a while,” a station source told the New York Post.
Another top source at the station also revealed that Ms. Simmons stopped taking her job seriously:
“She had this attitude like, ‘I’ve worked hard for all these years to get to this point, and I’ve done enough”.
While fans still may feel at a loss, the network executives offer their sentiments and explain that they are not only concerned about saving money, but they’re interested in saving jobs. Since Simmons was major part of their budget, cutting her out has led to keeping quite a few of the other staff members on board.
Of course MSDTV will keep you posted.
