Do Something, a charitable organization aimed at empowering youth to create social change released its list of the 20 most charitable celebrities of 2011. MSDTV was thrilled to see several Black and Latino celebrities in the top 20.

#4 – Will & Jada Pinkett Smith

Will & Jada Pinkett Smith’s foundation is focused on the academic achievement of youth. Last year, the couple donated 24 new Apple computers within 24 hours after a school was robbed of their own equipment.

 

#9 – Dwight Howard

This NBA star is setting a great example as the founder of the Dwight Howard Foundation. Also, Howard is the president of the D12 Foundation. The organization works with local organizations in the Orlando area.

 

#10 – Demi Lovato

Demi spoke up about her issues with body image. She is the spokesperson for the “Love is Louder Than the Pressure to Be Perfect” campaign which tackles bullying and body image.

 

#11 – Shakira

The hip shaking Latina sensation is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and Barack Obama appointed her as advisor to the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

 

#13 – will.i.am

The B.E.P front man sits on the Board of the Grammy Foundation and helped launch the Peapod Adobe Youth Voices Academy.

 

#15 – Nick Cannon

Cannon was the face of the “Stomp Out Hunger Campaign;” hosted a three-day Toys for Tots event and still found time to produce and host Nickelodeon’s HALO Awards.

 

This is only a top 20 list. There are far more celebrities who gave of their time and money in 2011. MSDTV salutes everyone who made a difference in their communities and the world this year (this means you too!).
