The 15th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival presented by BET Networks kicked off last night in NYC with the Opening Night world premiere of Nelson George and Diane Paragas’ documentary Brooklyn Boheme.

MSDTV was in the mix on the red carpet to capture exclusive interviews from the premier. Chris Rock, Spike Lee, festival ambassador Mario Van Peebles, Maxwell, Giancarlo Esposito and John Boyega (who’s filming a movie with Spike) were some of the few who came out in support of the film that many are describing as a “love letter to Brooklyn.”

“We’re very excited to be premiering this film at Urbanworld,” said George. “Hopefully, the exposure we’re receiving at this festival will create opportunities for us to bring ‘Brooklyn Boheme’ to the rest of the world.”

BET’s Stephen Hill, Basketball Wives’ Meeka Claxton, radio personality Egypt Sherrod, culture critic Michaela Angela Davis, stylist/entrepreneur Marlo Hampton, actor Hassan Johnson, and director Qasim Basir were some of the other VIP in attendance.

In an impromptu interview, Chris Rock spoke to MSDTV about his latest projects and his thoughts on Eddie Murphy hosting the upcoming Oscars:

In a private listening event in NYC, Gloria Estefan talks to the press about her upcoming album, Miss Little Havana. In response to Ms. Drama’s question about possible collaborations, Ms. Estefan talks about being open to working with established and newer hip-hop acts and explains why artists like Nicki Minaj and Jessy J inspire her.

It’s a sad day for the true fans of VH1′s TV show, Single Ladies. After rumors circulating that Stacy Dash may get fired & Lisa Raye voicing her opinion on the situation, “Val” gave an exclusive statement to Global Grind stating she won’t come back for their second season.

“I truly enjoyed playing Val on ‘Single Ladies’, but I have decided to leave the show. I have to be back in L.A. with my children right now and the ‘Single Ladies’ shooting location makes that impossible. I wish VH1 the best of luck with the show and in maintaining the strong fan base we developed in season one.”

VH1 also released a statement saying:

“VH1 respects Stacey’s decision and her commitment to what she feels is best for her family. We thank her for all of her hard work in making ‘Single Ladies’ a success right out of the gate, and we wish her nothing but the best in her future plans.”

The show won’t be the same without her & she will be missed. The question now is who will replace her character “Val”? Leave us your picks in the comments section.

If Bishop Eddie Long knows his scripture, then he must know that, “whatever is done in darkness [always] comes to the light”.

Not surprisingly, the Bishop’s personal business is about to be lit on fire as two of his accusers (who previously settled) are now stepping forward with a soon to be released, “tell-all book”. (Get your popcorn ready!)

Plaintiff’s Jamal Parris and Spencer LeGrande are speaking out about their experiences with Bishop Long and have decided to write a memoir of what really went down during their adolescent years.

While Jamal and Spencer had originally agreed not to discuss what happened due to their out of court settlement, both men (in ther early 20s) spoke to ABC affiliate WSB-TV about Bishop Long and why they are moving forward with the book.

As reported by MSDTV, Kandi Burress has joined forces with OhMiBod to create a sexy adult toy line entitled, “Bedroom Kandi”. On Tuesday, August 16th – MSDTV received an exclusive sneak peak of”Bedroom Kandi” at their New York launch event.

During the event, media, celebs and VIPs got an impromptu performance by Kandi and a strip tease by burlesque dancer Veronica Varlow.

After tearing down the stage in London, Uk’s favorite DJ, Tim Westwood conducted a nice little interview with Detroit own, Big Sean. Around the 7:13, Sean briefly spoke on his his arrest for sexual assault related charges.

“I really wants to go into details & talk about it”

His lawyer wants him to be quiet until it’s all set & done. Promises to give Westwood the “exclusive”! We’ll put you on once everything in court is settle…boy!

Hide your kids! Hide your wife! Wait, nope – just hide your kids. O_o

It looks like Chi-town may have had a lapse of judgement last weekend as they made R&B singer R. Kelly the honorary grand marshal of the Bud Billiken Parade (a youth orientated parade) in Chicago.

The parade, which has been a Chi-town tradition since 1929, celebrates the importance of family, community and also encourages the youth of Chicago about education.

While some may feel Kelly has suffered enough scrutiny for his underage pursuits and child pornography, the secondary issue that has been brought up about Chicago’s faux pas is that the parade focuses on EDUCATION, and as noted in a 2009 interview with the singer, R. Kelly is illiterate. Kelly admits:

“I don’t even read really, and I’m not afraid to say that. My cousins and brothers used to tease me ‘You can’t even read right.”

It looks like Chi-town is setting this brother up for another FAIL or even worse a RELAPSE!
