Yesterday, The Roots’ Questlove took over the 1s and 2s for an hour at NYC radio station Hot 97.
Questlove dedicated his Black Fist Friday set to his mentor, producer J. Dilla.
J. Dilla — born James Dewitt Yancey — passed six-years ago after a heart attack. Jay Dee (as he was also known) produced albums for artists including Common, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, and several members of the Wu Tang Clan. Dilla was regarded as one of the best producers by artists and various publications; including Vibe, and The Source.
