Ms. Drama TV: Summer Jam 2010 – Pics & Interviews

Posted by MsDrama On June - 12 - 2010

Ms. Drama TV covers Summer Jam 2010 where she gets an update from Lil Twist and captures the DJ Khaled and friends set. Khaled brings out a few surprises during the show including, Rick Ross, Luda, Nicki Minaj, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe and T-Pain. Plus backstage footage from the event.

Hip-Hop, New Jersey, Live Performances and a crowd of 50,000 + screaming fans were the summer cocktail of the annual hip-hop concert. This year, it was at a new Stadium, but the same formula of popular artists and the more or less expected mash-ups still made up the night’s event.

Gucci Mane opened the show with Waka Flocka Flame, performing fan favorites such as, “Wasted”,“Lemonade” and “Oh Let’s Do It”. His first major performance out of jail, Gucci Mane amped the crowd setting the pitch for the evening’s festivities.

Juelz Santana, sin Jim Jones, who was rumored to be prohibited in entering Giant’s Stadium, donned the stage with Freeky Zekey where they performed the “Dipset Anthem”, “Back to the Crib” and “Pop Champagne”. During the set, Lloyd Banks joined Juelz for their summer hit of “Beamers Benz, or Bentley”. Maino also came out to support, performing “Get ‘Em Tiger” with crew.

To cater to the lyrical crowd, which may or may not have existed that night, Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek brought out Estelle and later, Jay-Z’s signee to Roc Nation, J. Cole, to the stage. Estelle  performed “Midnight Hour” with Talib Kweli and allowed J. Cole to demonstrate his talent with songs off of his mixtape.

To appeal to the “streets”, Brooklyn MC Fabolous, touched the stage with live band performing mixtape hit “Body Ya”. Although a short set, the crowd was warmed up for the anticipated act of the night: Drake.

In a midst of unnecessary smoke from the stage, Drake emerged with a surprising energy and buoyancy that made many wonder if the EMT would have to be called later that night. He brought out head honcho for Cash Money, Baby, and not surprisingly his team mate Nicki Minaj, who made her entrance in usual Barbie Fashion. Talking on her role, she brought out dancehall reggae artist, Egyptian to perform “Hold Yuh”. With a few seconds of pretend grinding to the song, they parted ways for her and Drake to have their moment of love declarations to one another – where she then exited the stage. In the last few minutes before his set ended, Drake decided to pay homage to his locked up team leader, Lil Wayne with the song, “I’m Going In”.

Nicki’s night didn’t end there for she also made a few more appearances including one for her verse in Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad” and “All I Do is Win” remix with DJ Khaled. For Nicki’s “Lil’ Freak” performance with Usher, she reportedly walked out on stage hand in hand with Cassie, for her infamous, “plotting on how [she] can take Cassie away [from Diddy]” verse.

Trey Songz also added to the atmosphere coming in with his own smoke and mirrors flair that drew in the female audience. With heavy gyrations and suggestive moves, Trey crooned to his female fan base how he “Invented Sex” and the “Neighbors Know [His] Name”.

DJ Khaled’s set was was one of the obvious highlights from the night. He brought out Rick Ross, T Pain, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe and reggae icon Barrington Levy. Cam’ron was the biggest surprise performing street banger, “I Really Mean It” and “Speaking Tungs” with Vado. “All I Do is Win” was the obvious vote for the night as everyone’s hands followed the instructions carefully, by literally going up and down during his set.

Finally, Usher made his grandiose appearance with pyrotechnics and a little bit of divo. He opened his catalogue book and performed past classics as well as his current hits. Although the crowd started to pan out, Usher ended his show with O-M-G which gave some last minute energy to those who has stayed until the very end.
